While the patriarchal boys in hip-hop crew may talk about keeping it real, there has been no musical culture with black men at the forefront of its creation that has been steeped in the politics of fantasy and denial as the more popular strands of hip-hop. ↗

You will remember that Albertus Magnus, after describing minutely the process by which spirits may be invoked and commanded, adds emphatically that the process will instruct and avail only to the few - that a man must be born a magician! - that is, born with a peculiar physical temperament, as a man is born a poet. Rarely are men in whose constitution lurks this occult power of the highest order of intellect - usually in the intellect there is some twist, perversity, or disease.' ("The House And The Brain") ↗

The truth beyond the fetish's glimmering mirage is the relationship of laborer to product; it is the social account of how that object came to be. In this view every commodity, beneath the mantle of its pricetag, is a hieroglyph ripe for deciphering, a riddle whose solution lies in the story of the worker who made it and the conditions under which it was made. ↗

The Supreme cult does not bear any relationship with the ordinary course of life. The physical body, after attainment of the Supreme Cult will remain as it was before. It will feel pleasure and pain as it used to do. One must be earning his honest livelihood. It is only possible for a man without the least tinge of desire that ‘to see God is for the sake of seeing God’ and ‘to attain God is for the sake of attaining God’ only." - Sri Jibankrishna ↗
