A lot of the time I hate acting. It has a lot to do with the way I was brought up in a world where showing your emotions is frowned upon. It's just not manly. I don't do anything in life because I love doing it. It's because I want to be good at it. ↗
It comes down to this: black people were stripped of our identities when we were brought here, and it's been a quest since then to define who we are. ↗
I spend my time trying to figure art out. I was brought up to believe that the way one processes information is by making it into art. That's how I live my life. ↗
Well, it was actually - I brought the idea of doing a documentary to HBO back in 2000, when there were some press reports sort of were bandied about that there were going to TV movies based on some of the books that were out. ↗
