Read through the most famous quotes by topic #suspense

I tell students that suspense comes, not from knowing almost nothing, but from knowing almost everything and caring very much about the small part still unknown. ↗

— Orson Scott Card

For anyone who wanted to throw away his watch, along with his past, this was the place. ↗

Brooke?" he finally found the sense to ask. "What are you doing here?" "I need a gun." This was not how his dream was supposed to go. ↗

Inevitably, his vision verged toward the fantastic; he published a scattering of stories - most included in this volume - which appeared to conform to that genre at least to the degree that the fuller part of his vision could be seen as "mysteries." For Woolrich it all was fantastic; the clock in the tower, hand in the glove, out of control vehicle, errant gunshot which destroyed; whether destructive coincidence was masked in the "naturalistic" or the "incredible" was all pretty much the same to him. RENDEZVOUS IN BLACK, THE BRIDE WORE BLACK, NIGHTMARE are all great swollen dreams, turgid constructions of the night, obsession and grotesque outcome; to turn from these to the "fantastic" was not to turn at all. The work, as is usually the case with a major writer was perfectly formed, perfectly consistent, the vision leached into every area and pulled the book together. "Jane Brown's Body" is a suspense story. THE BRIDE WORE BLACK is science fiction. PHANTOM LADY is a gothic. RENDEZVOUS IN BLACK was a bildungsroman. It does not matter. ↗

I like being scared every now and then, I like the suspense and the thrills. Nothing like taking a girlfriend to a movie and holding her hand while she jumps. ↗

— Scott Foley

Luck is everything... My good luck in life was to be a really frightened person. I'm fortunate to be a coward, to have a low threshold of fear, because a hero couldn't make a good suspense film. ↗

Jake became excruciatingly aware of her, there, right behind him. The small grunts and groans as she placed each foot carefully on the slick ground reverberated in his gut. He wanted to turn around and tell her to shut the hell up. She sounded as though she was having sex. Good sex. ↗

Jordan loomed over her and a flash of light blinded her momentarily. The knife. Shane felt her newfound courage faltering, felt herself falling back through the years, into the body of that little girl. No. She closed her eyes, pictured Matt’s face, Gram’s face, and felt her strength returning. She would not let Jordan terrify her again. She might fail tonight, she might die, but she would not be his whimpering victim. Opening her eyes, she braved the flashing glare of the hunting knife he held above her face. She willed her body to lie still as she stared straight into his eyes. With a thrill of triumph, she saw the surprise in the gray eyes that stared back at her. Neither of them spoke a word, but they both knew the final moves in the game were at hand, and that Shane had just altered the rules. She could see the dawn of awareness in his eyes: She was no longer a mere pawn to toy with as he pleased. On the other hand, he still had the knife. ↗

Statues are too much like dolls, and dolls are creepy. You keep expecting them to blink. And the ones that smile, like this?" Eve kept her lips tight together and she curved them up. "You know they've got teeth in there. Big, sharp, shiny teeth." I didn't. But now I've got to worry about it. ↗

— J.D. Robb

Our love was a temporary madness, erupting like the prominent tidal waves that leaps giant, then subsides into the soft decay of the ocean. We were so entwined together, so wrapped up into each other's lives and love, that it was inconceivable that we would ever part. Because that was the kind of love that Trysten and I had. Something so unrelentless, and strong. Fearful! We had a love that was so restless, so urgent, so agitated. It was not the recitation of our promises of our eternal passion that we shared within the wild beating of our hearts, rather it was the desire that we had for one another in a most rapturous way. It was knowing that every special moment of the day was going to be well spent kissing each others lips, and loving each other in the most promiscuous of ways, and when we weren't kissing or loving, then imagining so. This was the truth of our love. We weren't just in love, rather we were what love was all about, and why it existed in the first place; and it burned through every cell of our body like a hot fire that could never be contained. (this is from my second book DESCEND - a mermaid series) ↗
