In 1950 he worked alongside Richard Nixon to reduce the French influence in Vietnam as well as asking the United States to attempt to cooperate with the French in the aid of strengthening Diem's Army. He subsequently attended the United Nations General Assembly as a United States delegate in 1946 1947 and 1950. A central West Berlin road was (re-)named "John-Foster-Dulles-Allee" in 1959 in the presence of Christian Herter Dulles' successor as Secretary of State.
