Paladino was honored in 1991 by the City of Buffalo as Buffalonian of the Year and in 1993 as Alumnus of the Year by St. Paladino apologized for his comments saying that "The portrayal of me as anti-gay is inconsistent with my lifelong beliefs and actions and my prior history as an father employer and friend to many in the gay and lesbian community" He later said he meant what he had said but regretted not wording it differently. Paladino's campaign submitted 30000 signatures for the Taxpayers line on August 10 2010.
