As a result of the World War, this old Germany collapsed. It collapsed in its constitution, in its social order, in its economic structure. Its thinking and feeling changed.

Stresemann's politics defy easy categorization. During his political career he represented three successive liberal parties; he was the dominant figure of the German People's Party during the Weimar Republic.
