He is author of several books and also does work as presenter of a popular science magazine shows such as MaxQ on Bavarian TV. In 1993 he flew on board the Space Shuttle Columbia on mission STS-55 (Spacelab D-2) as a Payload Specialist. He received honorary doctorate from the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Uraine (2012)
