Able Danger was a top-secret military planning operation, established in '99 by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to identify cells of al-Qaida worldwide and to take out al Qaida terrorists. They identified five cells worldwide, one of them in Brooklyn.

Weldon made improving relations with Russia one of his key efforts in the House.

He served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 1987 to 2007 representing the 7th district of Pennsylvania. He was also the co-chair of the Duma-Congress Study Group the official inter-parliamentary relationship between the United States and Russia.
