Doctor Who is a wonderful example of a TV show changing its format in order to continue producing: the departure of William Hartnell and the decision for the Doctor to change body, form, and personality but still be the same (alien) man is still a stunning creative innovation on the part of Innes Lloyd: “an opportunity to tweak the show’s format whilst at the same time maintaining the integrity of its fictional universe.”(22) This, of course, has enabled the show to run much longer than the producers could then imagine: now to include eleven recognized canon Doctors, and a superb capacity...
