I've written what and when I want to. It's been about expressing myself. But with the degree, I had to learn to do everything in a very specific, disciplined way. I am very disciplined, but this demanded a totally different kind of discipline. A real challenge.

A period of inactivity for Armatrading followed while Joan Armatrading extricated herself from her contract with Cube Records. In that year Joan Armatrading performed on Rockpalast night.

Armatrading is a three-time Grammy Award-nominee and has been nominated twice for BRIT Awards as Best Female Artist. In a recording career spanning 40 years Joan Armatrading has released a total of 18 studio albums as well as several live albums and compilations. She also received an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contemporary Song Collection in 1996.
