Grundy's influence in the legislature continued to grow and when John Breckinridge resigned to accept President Thomas Jefferson's appointment as U. Adair returned to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1798. P.

Following the war he was elected as a delegate to South Carolina's convention to ratify the United States Constitution. Three counties named "Adair" are named for him (in Kentucky Missouri and Iowa) as are the cities of Adairville Kentucky and Adair Iowa.
