He represented England in the weightlifting event at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth Western Australia. In the 2004 documentary Empire of Dreams actress Carrie FiDavid Prowser who played Princess Leia Organa in the original trilogy films quipped that they nicknamed Prowse "Darth Farmer" because of his un-intimidating West Country accent. In 2001 Prowse's left arm became paralyzed followed by his right.

Prowse is a native of Bristol where he attended Bristol Grammar School. In Britain he is also remembered as having played the Green Cross Code man. David Prowse MBE (born 1 July 1935) is an English former bodybuilderweightlifter and actor most widely known for playing the role of Darth Vader (though James Earl Jones voiced the character).
