They had three children: Fanny (1784) Hannibal (1786) and Ethan Junior (1787). In 1770 a group of Wentworth grant holders asked Allen to defend their case before New York's Supreme Court a move that presented Allen with his first big stage. First imprisoned aboard Royal Navy ships he was paroled in New York City and finally released in a prisoner exchange in 1778.
