In August 1985 seven years before the fall of Soviet Union the Professors World Peace Academy an organization founded by Moon sponsored a conference in Geneva to debate the theme "The situation in the world after the fall of the communist empire. The church also has plans to build a convention center in Las Vegas on a 6 acre warehouse site it purchased in 2011.

It often receives media attention for the Blessing ceremony a mass wedding or marriage rededication ceremony (usually presided over by Moon and his wife Hak Ja Han) which sometimes features thousands of participants. Sun Myung Moon (Korean 문선명; born Mun Yong-myeong; 25 February 1920 – 3 September 2012) was a Korean religious leader best known as the founder of the Unification Church and for his claim that he was a messiah.
