Booth was encouraged to be an evangelist primarily through his best friend Will Sansom. The evangelist Rodney "Gipsy" Smith left him because of his rigidity and D. In 1904 he took part in a 'motorcade' when he was driven around Great Britain stopping off in cities towns and villages to preach to the assembled crowds from inside his open-top car.

William Booth (10 April 1829 – 20 August 1912) was a British Methodist preacher who founded The Salvation Army and became its first General (1878–1912). In 2002 Booth was named among the 100 Greatest Britons following a UK-wide vote.
