She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982. Alva Myrdal (née Reimer; 31 January 1902 – 1 February 1986) was a Swedish sociologist and politician. From 1950 to 1955 Alva Myrdal was chairman of UNESCO's social science section—the first woman to hold such prominent positions in the UN.
