The mother memories that are closest to my heart are the small gentle ones that I have carried over from the days of my childhood. They are not profound, but they have stayed with me through life, and when I am very old, they will still be near . . . Memories of mother drying my tears, reading aloud, cutting cookies and singing as she did, listening to prayers I said as I knelt with my forehead pressed against her knee, tucking me in bed and turning down the light. They have carried me through the years and given my life such a firm foundation that it does not rock beneath flood or tempest.

Did you know about Margaret Sanger?

Maisel and Sincere Publishing with the title What Every Mother Should Know or how six little children were taught the truth .

Sanger's activism was influenced by the conditions of her youth—her mother had 18 pregnancies in 22 years and died at age 50 of tuberculosis and cervical cancer. Sanger felt that in order for women to have a more equal footing in society and to lead healthier lives they needed to be able to determine when to bear children. In New York Sanger organized the first birth control clinic staffed by all-female doctors as well as a clinic in Harlem with an entirely African-American staff.
