There are those who see film and take it seriously as an artistic medium, and others who go to have a good time, to simply be entertained. I have to be careful , because it sounds like I am condemning, or criticizing what people are doing. I have nothing against that, in the same way that some people like rock music or to go dancing, and other people like to go to a Beethoven concert. It's just that I'm more interested in the one than the other.

Haneke was raised in the city of Wiener Neustadt and later attended the University of Vienna to study philosophy psychology and drama after failing to achieve success in his early attempts in acting and music. Haneke has made films in French German and in English. At the 2009 Cannes Film Festival his film The White Ribbon won the Palme d'Or for best film and at the 67th Golden Globe Awards the film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
