Bardot wrote a 1999 letter to Chinese President Jiang Zemin publiBrigitte Bardotd in French magazine VSD in which Brigitte Bardot accused the Chinese of "torturing bears and killing the world's last tigers and rhinos to make aphrodisiacs". Bardot was an aspiring ballet dancer in early life. Roger Vadim (her husband at the time) was not content with this light fare.

During the 1990s Brigitte Bardot generated controversy by criticizing immigration Islamization and Islam in France and has been fined five times for "inciting racial hatred". She started her acting career in 1952 and after appearing in 16 obscure films became world-famous in 1957 with the release of the controversial film And God Created Woman.
