On June 4 2007 Thomas was reported in serious condition struggling with an infection while undergoing a second round of chemotherapy at Bethesda Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. S. Thomas graduated from the University of Wyoming in Laramie with a degree in animal husbandry.

Craig Lyle Thomas (February 17 1933 – June 4 2007) was an American politician who served more than twelve years as a Republican United States senator from Wyoming. He had served in key positions in several state agencies including a long tenure as Vice President of the Wyoming Farm Bureau from 1965-74. Thomas resided in Casper for twenty-eight years.
