Throughout his career the United States dealt with yellow peril which affected Americans perceptions of Asians. Some Japanese felt his American success represented turning his back on his nation. In 1924 he made The Great Prince Chan and The Story of Su in London.

Hayakawa was active at the outset of the American film industry. g. Hayakawa refused to adopt the negative stereotypes he abandoned Hollywood for European cinema and there he was treated equally.
