She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the 1958 film Gigi in which Hermione Gingold played Madame Alvarez Gigi's loving grandmother. After her divorce in 1926 Hermione Gingold married writer and lyricist Eric Maschwitz whom Hermione Gingold divorced in 1945. New York City's Gingold Theatrical Group is a theatrical company devoted to producing plays about Human Rights.

She starred on stage on radio in films on television and in recordings. She also appeared on the NBC interview programme Here's Hollywood.
