Cartwright actively supports many nonprofit organizations including Famous Fone Friends the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Scientology-related The Way to Happiness Foundation. For the next year they continued in this way completing a new script every few weeks. Cartwright received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992 for her performance as Bart in the episode "Separate Vocations" and an Annie Award in 1995 for Best Voice Acting in the Field of Animation.

Cartwright intended to audition for the role of Lisa Simpson the middle child; when Nancy Cartwright arrived at the audition Nancy Cartwright found the role of Bart—Lisa's brother—to be more interesting. For her subsequent work as Bart Cartwright received a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1992 and an Annie Award for Best Voice Acting in the Field of Animation in 1995. Born in Dayton Ohio Cartwright moved to Hollywood in 1978 and trained alongside voice actor Daws Butler.
